Texting
The inbox, what sends automatically, and the rules you cannot turn off.
Two-way SMS with your leads, in one place. Open Inbox in the app.
Important: Texting does not work at all until you are registered with the carriers, and unregistered messages are silently filtered rather than bounced. If your texts are vanishing, read A2P before anything else on this page.
What lands here
Every text between you and a lead, in one thread per person:
- Replies to your follow-up sequences
- Replies to appointment reminders
- Anyone who texts your number first
- Anything you send by hand from a lead's record
The thread is the whole history. Somebody who texted you in March and again today is one conversation, not two.
What sends automatically
Only what you turned on:
- Reminders and confirmations before an appointment
- Follow-up sequences for leads who did not answer
Nothing else sends on its own. LeadBind will not text a lead because it felt like it.
Rules you cannot turn off
These are enforced in code, on every single send, not once when a sequence starts.
STOP is permanent and immediate. A reply of STOP adds that number to your do-not-contact list and blocks every future automated message. It is not a preference you can override.
8am to 9pm, in the recipient's own local time. Automated sends are held to that window, worked out from the number itself rather than from your clock, so a Texas business never texts a California customer at 6am.
The do-not-contact list is checked before every message. Including manual ones.
Full detail: Consent and opt-outs.
If your account runs on recorded consent
Some accounts are set to contact only leads with consent on file. That setting has always governed what the AI will dial. It now governs texting too.
With it on, a text to a lead who has no recorded consent is refused, and you are told why: "This lead has no recorded consent. Attest consent on its list before texting." Nothing is queued and nothing is half-sent.
Consent counts as recorded when the lead opted in themselves, or when you attested consent on the list they belong to. See Consent and opt-outs.
One real limit, worth knowing rather than discovering. The gate finds the lead by matching the number against your own book. A number that matches no lead you hold is not covered by it, because there is no list to attest against and no record to check. Texting a number that is not in your book stays your judgement call, and everything on Compliance still applies to it.
The do-not-contact list is separate and is checked first, on every account, whether or not this setting is on.
Writing a good text
Short. One or two sentences. This is a text.
Say who you are. They filled out a form days ago. "This is Dave from Dave's Roofing" beats "following up!"
One question, easy to answer. "Still want us to look at that roof?" beats a paragraph.
Never guilt them. "I have not heard back" reads as nagging and earns you an opt-out, which is permanent.
When someone replies
A reply stops the automation for that lead. The sequence does not keep running underneath a live conversation, which is exactly what you want, because nothing looks worse than an automated nudge landing while you are mid-conversation.
Answer it yourself, or ask a connected assistant what came in overnight.
Common problems
Nothing sends at all. A2P registration. This is the cause the overwhelming majority of the time, and there is no error to see.
One person gets nothing. They replied STOP. That is the system working.
Sends are delayed. It is outside 8am to 9pm where the recipient is, so it queued for the morning.
A lead got two different sequences. They exist twice. Merge them in Leads, because duplicates are how one person ends up feeling harassed.
